Support After Abortion and Restorative Justice

Karin Barbito spent the first 13 years of her career, working in the science fields of nuclear engineering and chemistry. For the next eight years Karin went down a very dark road, until she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Because of her newfound faith, and struggles she had overcome, Karin’s priorities and career interests changed, prompting her to go back to college for social work.

Karin moved to Florida in 2008 and for the next 10 years worked for non-profit agencies serving the homeless and underprivileged. Karin was hired as the Director of the Community Assistance Ministry at Trinity Presbyterian Church – a small outreach serving those in need in the Venice and Nokomis, FL area.

By 2015, when Karin left to accept the position as the Shelter Director at The Homeless Coalition in Port Charlotte, FL this small outreach had grown to a large multi-service facility that helped over 36,000 people annually.

In her current role as Program Director for Support After Abortion, Karin, through various after abortion support programs, guides people who have been impacted by an abortion decision, through the grief and loss process. In addition, Karin has helped to develop, expand, and implement after abortion healing programs at pregnancy centers in several counties along the Gulf Coast of Florida, as well as nationally.

In 2019, Support After Abortion teamed up with the movie Unplanned, to be the after abortion support for those that reach out for help after seeing the movie.

Fr. Jim Hewes established Project Rachel in the Diocese of Rochester, NY and directed this post-abortion healing ministry for 18 years.
