On Monday, July 9th, Cuomo spoke at a rally signing an executive order to require insurers to cover abortion. At the same rally where he was adorned with Planned Parenthood posters and supporters, he said, “God told me I was a feminist when he gave me three daughters.” That’s a relief, I thought he thought he was God.
Embracing the extreme pro-abortion agenda of Planned Parenthood, which he obviously does, is his prerogative, but make no mistake about it, Cuomo is not concerned with women’s health, and does not speak for most women, including countless numbers of us who have had abortions.
Cuomo’s abortion bill will allow abortion at any time for any reason through all nine months of pregnancy. It also states that any health care practitioner licensed under Title VIII can perform an abortion. This would include non-physicians, which is a desire of groups like Planned Parenthood since the number of doctors willing to perform abortions is dwindling. This does not sound like concern for women’s health.
Sadly, it also repeals protections for infants born alive.
Like many politicians, now Cuomo is using the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to fuel the fires in support of his extreme abortion agenda. The safety of women is just smoke and mirror in a platform for his political aspirations as he makes the public think abortion will be outlawed and women will go to jail. No and no!
Even if Roe were overturned, which is not likely, the issue would go back to the states, many of which already have things in place to protect it.
Despite Cuomo citing his deep concern for the health of women, his desired agenda does nothing to truly protect them. He fights against women’s right to know legislation which would warn them of the very real dangers of abortion. He does nothing to protect women when the supposed “choice” is not theirs and they are being bullied and coerced by husbands, boyfriends, and parents. The only women he is concerned with are the abortion extremists.
I am a post-abortive woman and I have been working with other women who have experienced abortion for over 20 years. It is insulting that people like Cuomo are defining us by abortion as if we are not capable of being strong and could not survive without it. They yell “trust women,” yet their actions could not be further from the truth, which they refuse to even tell them. These very same people go to great lengths to also deny the damage abortion has done to millions of us.
This is not care for women.
Governor Cuomo, you do not speak for all women, and believe me, you are NOT a feminist. What you are is a politician looking to advance your career and an extreme pro-abortion activist. Period.
