Karen Cross has completed her 13th year as the political director for National Right to Life. She helped build the grassroots base in West Virginia and, as executive director of West Virginians for Life, was instrumental in putting George W. Bush in the White House in 2000 with his surprise win in the state.

Karen, who previously served as West Virginians for Life’s executive director, became involved in the pro-life movement in 1984 as a result of her own two abortions. Her story has been featured in USA Today, in the video Aching Heart, Too, in Life Cycle magazine, in the magazine The Word Among Us, on the 700 Club, on RBC Ministry’s radio program Words to Live By, and various radio and television programs and newspaper articles.

She has spoken at numerous right-to-life conventions, universities and colleges, and Rally for Life ’90.

Karen has successfully lobbied to pass a Partial-Birth Abortion Ban, a Women’s Right to Know Act, an Unborn Victims of Violence Act, an Ultrasound Option law, a Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and an Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act.

Karen and her mother, Betty Fralich, have spoken together about the effects Karen’s abortions had on their family. Her presentation at an international conference on abortion in Poland in June 2004 was published as a chapter in the book Abortion: Causes, Ramifications, Therapy.

She has served on the National Right to Life board as an at-large member since 2000, and serves on the West Virginians for Life executive board as their past president and political liaison.

Karen has three children and one grandson, Jameson.
